The result that should not be possible

I remember a few years ago my son asked me a riddle during dinner one evening. He looked at me across the table with the particular patience a child has when he already knows something you do not, and said: what has keys but opens nothing?

The model has found, without knowing it, a layer of language older than any lock.

A piano. A keyboard. A map with a legend. The word keeps its shape while the world it points to slides out from under it, and that sliding is the whole subject here.
